The Best Content Marketing Strategy Trends for 2021 and Beyond
There’s a lot of material out there on the Internet about marketing trends. It’s hard to know what trends and tips actually work to help your business grow and succeed. But, the main problem with most of this material is that it usually requires you to buy and use expensive, complicated technology.
Well, I’m here to tell you that the most important things you need to understand about marketing. The answers to your questions are not found in expensive, complicated technology! The answers you need are in the natural, common sense things that you can do to reach your customers.
While we still need to use technology to get our message out there, the technology is used as a vehicle. The most important aspect is the nature of the message.
What is the Best Content Marketing Strategy for 2021?
The best marketing strategy for 2021 is to create personalized messaging. You should create a message that speaks to the needs of your audience. First of all, this message should answer the questions they ask, and the questions they don’t ask. Second, your message should make your audience feel heard. Lastly, it should be SEO optimized so that they can find you, and find what they are looking for. Here are three key ways to do that.
Know Your “Why”!
If you’ve ever spent time with children, you know what it’s like to get hit with “why, why, why?” However, children don’t ask this question to be annoying. They ask because they have a need to know. The world is new to them and they want to gain your knowledge.
Your customers are no different. They need to know the reason why you and your brand are the best at each juncture in their journey. In other words, they want to know if you are going to serve a legitimate need and respect the people you serve. Or, in turn, if you are looking to make a quick buck by cutting corners.
Your Why is the purpose of your organization, the cause it serves, or the belief that drives you. Most companies have something akin to a mission statement. Usually, these statements list off a lot of core values, but don’t exactly nail down the answer the question “Why?” In marketing, we may sometimes refer to your “why” as your value proposition. Your value proposition, for example, is the unique way you provide value to your customers.
Renee Warren, writer for Entrepreneur.com, calls discovering your ‘why’ your number one business move. It is about the crossovers between your core value/s and your value proposition. You should do your best to nail down what that is and try to communicate it in content you create.
Personalization
When your audience engages with your content, they are looking to see that your products and services will meet their needs. Most important, you must understand that for every purchase, a basic need is being met. For example, someone may need to buy a pair of quality sunglasses. That person may spend a lot of time outdoors and they don’t want to damage their eyes.
That’s a pretty simple need, but there’s a deeper meaning behind it. The purchase they are considering is going to change their appearance. In turn, this will affect how others respond to them. In this case, the person’s appearance is important. They want to look good. To sell your product, your content should address that underlying need for your audience. In this instance, a simple statement like, “Protect your vision from UV rays, and look good while doing it.” would help address these concerns.
You’ll find that if you look deep enough, whatever need your product or service fulfills, there is a more basic need behind it. If you speak to that need, you speak to the person. Speaking directly to the underlying need will make your audience feel heard and understood. Deep down, that’s an underlying need we all have.
Another example would be to ask questions in your emails – and then actually respond back. Set up a simple chat widget on your website and allow for conversations. Host a Facebook Live for 15 minutes and invite your audience to “ask you anything.” The type of feedback and engagement you receive will surprise you. Allowing yourself to be vulnerable and transparent will allow your authenticity to shine.
The “Organic Matters” Marketing Strategy
If you’ve been reading up on marketing strategy, you know that search engine optimization (SEO) is not something to take lightly. As most experienced SEO professionals will tell you, getting it right can be a full-time job.
You have to research the search terms that are likely to be found in the search queries your audience will use. These terms depend on the industry your in, type of products (or services) you sell, and your customer profiles.
Grabbing the Google Juice
To do this, a keyword-optimized blog is your best bet. You can begin your SEO research by looking for the search terms your most successful competitors are using. Don’t copy their SEO strategy, but tailor your SEO keywords for your brand and your audience. It’s important that you track the success of your keyword strategy and adjust it as you move forward.
Do these things well, and you’ll have a content strategy that makes your audience feel heard. It will keep them engaged, as well as multiply the value they get from your product (or service) in their daily lives!
