TIP: How to Set Up a Beginner Video Podcast Studio at Home
- Sound (Direct)
he microphone matters – select a simple podcast mic you can have on your desk or a corded lavalier – don’t worry about a sound board for now
- Sound (Indirect)
possibly the most important – make sure that you have cloth or sound absorbent materials surrounding your recording area and/or add in some foam sound absorbing squares right above where you will be recording
- Background
allow for different angles to film from so you can change it up, and be sure to check from the perspective of the camera. Remember to keep the elements in the back either minimal or themed the same so it isn’t distracting
- Video
I recommend having two cameras – one as a video DSLR is great for moving around and don’t forget about a good quality web camera – works just as good for most home recording
- Color
I recommend having touches of color from your brand incorporated, will help to create brand consistency
- Simple
remember if this is your office as well as recording studio, you’ll need to be able to quickly shift between the two so plan for work areas and filming areas in your room

My Video Podcast Equipment – Recording Studio Reveal
When you’re in the business of content creation, you need a creative space that will help you thrive. Digital marketing doesn’t happen by itself. Your podcast setup and video podcasting equipment need to have a home that inspires great conversation and galvanizing engagement.
Why Every Content Maker Needs an Inspired Space
Creating an inspired space is important because you can’t create authentic, emotionally available content if you are not creating from your highest place. The secret to finding (and keeping) raving fans online is being the truest version of yourself. This creates an amazing dynamic. People will trust in you, can’t wait to hear what you have to say next, and the sheer energy of expressing yourself truly causes people to perceive you as an “authority” on whatever topic you choose to talk about.
I’ve got a little tip for you, too. It’s not that you’re an authority. Your audience will see that you’re bringing ideas and actionable tips that they can truly relate to. You express yourself in a highly activated, creative, and alive space. The space you create in will inspire you emotionally. You’ll find yourself inspired to use galvanizing language. . . and perhaps even induce a feeling of being awe-struck in your listeners and readers.
How to Create Stimulating Vibes
Let’s step right in here and get a look around at my office space!
Desk and Chairs
First of all, I have a Citizen’s desk. This is where I work most days. I also have a second desk that’s on wheels so I can move it around and set up different filming spots. It has a white, bright top, and I use different papers as backdrops to change the look for filming.
There are chairs that I brought in for when guests come for a podcast. And, of course, a whiteboard area so I can jot down creative ideas and work out challenges for a nice brain dump when needed.
Lighting and Cameras
My lighting is really important, and so I’ve got a ton of variety at my disposal. I have some very expensive blinds that I installed because they help me control the lighting in this room. To control the intensity of overhead lighting, I like to use a ring light. I find that it allows me to control the lighting dynamics in the room. To add a whimsical feature to my videos, I have LED lights that I can set to almost any color to invoke cool vibes. I’ve incorporated lots of color and fun.
You’ll also find a display of cameras that I use to film different angles. My video podcast equipment can also be used all around the room, in whatever corner is inspiring the content I want to create.
The Most Important Part of My Space
The most important part of my new studio and office space is my inspiration wall. I have quotes and a Picasso painting that I adore to help set the tone of my content creation and to keep my mind strong and inspired. I adore looking at these different pieces, even though I’m currently looking for a new frame to replace the glass that shattered into a billion pieces from my Picasso print. Picasso once said “Everything you can imagine is real.” I can create whatever I need in this space because I’ve made it in the image of myself. It reflects who I am and who I’m becoming every day.
It doesn’t matter if I’m on a Zoom call, using my podcast setup, or creating another type of content, I always feel inspired in this space. I know it has a great vibe because my cats like to lounge here with me. They’re very discerning animals, and they’d leave in a second if it didn’t feel right here to them.
Setting Up Your Own Creative Space
While you may not be inspired by the same things that I am, creating a space specifically for your digital marketing efforts will help you feel inspired! Your space should reflect your interests and personality. It will help you feel excited about creating content every day. It may even inspire you to step out of your comfort zone because you’ve made your space feel like home.
