TIP: Developing a Morning Routine That Lasts

  1. Look Inward

What areas in life are you wanting to focus more attention: meditation, reading, journaling, exercise, etc.

  2. Look Outward

When and where can you find time to be private where you can accomplish what you’re after

  3. Creativity

When are you most creative – morning, evening? With people? After a team call or fresh when you wake up?

  4. Prioritize Tasks

Pay attention when doing different tasks – what energizes you and what do you dread or feels like it drains you?

  5. Energy

Focus on when you have bursts of energy through the day and when you feel dragged down and use that to guide what tasks to target for different times in the day

  6. Test

Try out different activities in the morning and see how it changes your day and your energy – stick with it for a few weeks and adjust as needed

  7. Repeat

Once you have a routine that feels good dialed in, make sure you stick to it for at least 12 days to solidify it as a new routine!

A Morning Routine for Entrepreneurs – Establishing Healthy Habits

If You Want a Successful Day, Start with a Stellar Morning

A healthy morning routine is an essential part of anyone’s day. As an entrepreneur, it’s a vital part of your day. How productive you are in your day depends on your routine. And no one wants to waste half the day away trying to be productive! Having your day pre-planned will not only set you up for success, but will make the day flow smoothly.

A good morning routine for entrepreneurs is so important! We have so much that happens in our days that it’s easy to get thrown off track. Before you know it, you’ve gone off on a tangent for someone else and have paid absolutely no attention to yourself and your priorities. So, how exactly can we start our day to set ourselves up for success? I’m glad you asked! Let’s go!

Creating the Right Morning Routine

How many times do you wake up in the morning, check your phone as soon as your eyes open, and see emails or messages from clients or employees? Of course, your first instinct is to respond to them right away. But is this really the way to start your morning? Absolutely not! Those messages, emails, and fires are going to be there whether you start when your eyes open or 1 hour later.

Your day is full of challenges and if you want to be successful in handling them effectively, you need to start with a good foundation. Starting your day with intention will set the mood for the entire day. The first step to doing this is to wake up and NOT check your phone! You deserve to take some much needed quiet time for yourself in the morning to collect yourself and prioritize your day.

Instead of waking up and checking your phone, wake up, stretch your body and smile. Smiling, even at nothing or no one, will help put you in a good mood! And what better way to start your day than in a good mood?

You need to make sure that you're not distracted and that you're taking care of your physical and mental state so that you have the most clarity and the most direct connection to that creativity.
Nourishing your body and mind is a great way to not only stay healthy but also tap into your creativity. Undistracted time to focus on yourself is the perfect way to get present and create clarity!

Nourish Your Body and Mind

A great morning routine consists of a specific wake up time, time to relax your body and mind, and time to pay attention to your physical body.

Once you understand what time you’re most productive you can work around it. Set a time to wake up that will allow you time prior to working to take care of yourself! This is most important! No one is going to take care of you except you – and if you aren’t well, you can’t take care of your business the way you’d like! So what better way to take care of yourself than by nourishing your mind and body as soon as you wake up?

Spend some quiet time with yourself every day.

Though there are many ways to do this, 2 of my favorites are meditating and journaling! Both allow me to be present and accept the here and now. I actually prefer to both meditate and journal! While meditating allows me to become present and clear my mind, journaling helps me to release all of my thoughts and feelings that I hold inside. Pair the two together, and it’s an equation for success!

Exercising and getting in my physical activity in the morning is also a great way to wake your body up and feel good! Daily physical exercise doesn’t only help your body stay more agile, but it also is a great way to clear your mind and release feel good endorphins into your body to improve your over all mood. Once you realize how amazing you feel, you’ll want to keep doing things to make you feel happy and healthy all the time! Nourishing your body and creating healthy habits makes a huge difference!

Practice makes perfect! - Jenn Neal on morning routine for entrepreneurs
Change doesn’t happen over night. It takes time and practice. The more you practice, the easier it will get. Be kind to yourself and don’t expect to be perfect on the first try.

Finding Your Productive Time

Everyone has a certain time of day when they are most productive. It varies from person to person. Personally, I work best in the morning. Other people work best at night! Neither is wrong! It just depends on you. Recognizing what time of day you are most productive will help you see when you should be getting the bulk of your work done. Establish a routine and schedule in work time for your most productive hours and see just how much you’ll get done!

If you do your best work in the morning, create a morning routine that will kickstart your day. Establish your quiet time. Minimize your contact with the outside world while you are gathering your thoughts and making your daily plans. Take advantage of this time to appreciate your own talents and what you have to offer.

Finding your most productive time of day is just the start! With this, you’ll be able to really start to create your routine. It’ll help you establish what time is ideal to wake up so you can take some time for self care prior to starting work! Taking care of your mental and physical first is a must – which brings me to my next point!

The Right Morning Routine Will Help You Move Forward Throughout the Day

If you have a good morning routine that will continue to inspire you throughout the rest of the day, you won’t have any problems continuing to create and be productive. When creating your morning routine, you’ll want to set aside time to create your to do list for the day. Choose a routine that allows you to prioritize your tasks. Create a timeline for the rest of your day that corresponds to when you have the most energy. You may have to try a few different activities to find the ones that work best for you.

There’s nothing worse than starting your day and not knowing what you need to do. As an entrepreneur, there always seems to be 5 million things to do and what feels like 2 hours a day to do them. What better way to keep track than by creating a running to do list. Each day, sit down after your “me time” and take a look at your to do list. Add any tasks that need to be added, pick which tasks need the most attention, and work from there. When you sit down to work during your most productive time, you’ll notice it a lot easier to start working because you’ll already know what you need to do! Your day will automatically feel more productive – and as entrepreneurs, we want to be as productive as possible!

It's super amazing to see all the different routines people come up with, and how every unique individual finds a way to maximize their capacity in different ways. - morning routine for entrepreneurs
Every person is going to have a different routine. Incorporate things that you enjoy doing to ensure that you don’t hate your routine, and don’t compare your routine to those of other people. Find unique ways to maximize your capacity.

Practice Makes Perfect

Most people don’t come with a solid morning routine right out of the gate. New routines take time to create and adapt to. For example, if you are currently waking up at 8 AM, and want to start waking up at 6 AM, you won’t magically feel great doing it! It’ll take time to adapt to waking up earlier. However, when you can’t do it right off the bat, it’s important that you tweak other areas to help make it easier. Don’t just give up on yourself on day 1 or day 3. Make a conscious effort to do it. Go to bed 10 minutes earlier each night to ensure that you get enough sleep and within a week or so, you’ll notice how much easier it is to wake up!

Everyone has setbacks, but it’s important to keep trying. Never stop moving forward. Need to take a detour? Make the most of it and go exploring! As an entrepreneur you know that you don’t become successful by giving up. You become successful by pushing though, making tweaks and being consistent.

It’s important that you don’t give up just a few days in.

Be kind to yourself. Give yourself time to make these changes. You may even realize that you want to make a few changes to your routine to make it more doable. Be patient. Practice makes perfect, and staying consistent is key!

Your morning routine should be as unique as you are. Explore your options. You will definitely hit a few potholes along the way, but isn’t that part of the learning process? Pick yourself up. Learn whatever lesson is presented and try something new. Before long, you will have a solid morning routine you really enjoy. Once you get your routine set, enjoy yourself and have a little fun with it! Your best morning routine will be one that allows you to reconnect with yourself and tap into your creative flow. Once you get it started in the morning, you can easily maintain it throughout the day. Have fun and take advantage of new opportunities.

Times Change and So Should You!

You won’t grow if you don’t change. Staying in the same holding pattern can be boring and cause you to lose your motivation. Remember that your morning routine needs to be made up of tasks and practices you enjoy and that gives you the burst of creativity you need. Over time, your way of connecting with your inner DaVinci may change. Adapting your morning routine as you move forward will help you stay focused. It’s okay to grow and adapt as long as it inspires you to move forward.

Take this challenge! Create a morning routine that allows you to thrive. Choose habits that are easily incorporated into your individual lifestyle. No one else feels or thinks exactly as you do. This is why it is so important for you to model your own routine, using your own practices and preferences. Learn to enjoy showcasing yourself and your own unique talents. With a solid morning routine, you will give yourself what you need to shine throughout the rest of the day. It’s up to you to make the most of your day! From the minute you open your eyes in the morning, make the most of every minute!
