How Backlinks in Digital Marketing Can Benefit Your Website
Using the word backlinks in digital marketing is not common – unless you’re also talking about a blog (which seems to be just a 4 letter word to most digital marketers.). In reality, backlinks are the best way to get organic traffic to your website. And while most people in the digital marketing world prefer to utilize funnels on their websites, they’re ultimately killing their website traffic. So, we’ve devised a backlinks strategy to regain the lost traffic and drive more people back to our site. Want to find out how? Let’s dive in!
What are backlinks?
To be able to understand our new strategy, you first need to understand what backlinks are and how they work. Honestly, it’s pretty much just how it sounds, but no it doesn’t go backwards. Well, I guess it does in a sense!
Backlinks are links that are placed on one website that drive you to another website. For example, if I guest blog for someone (if you don’t know what guest blogging is check out the link right below!), there will be links included in my post. When someone clicks those links, they will be reverted back to my website. Thus, creating a flow of organic traffic.
I know we’ve talked about the need for google juice before. And that’s exactly what backlinks help with – getting more of the google juice you want! The more backlinks you have, the higher ranking they are and the more google will recognize you as an authority site! The more google recognizes you as an authority site, the more that your site will show up in searches! Talk about free advertisement!
Now while most people in the digital marketing world don’t deal with blogs, we are focusing our efforts on utilizing guest blogging tools within podcasts instead. (Check out how we are doing this in part 1 of this episode : Guest Blogging Opportunities!)
Backlinks and Funnels
Podcasts are amazing to get exposure in the digital marketing world. And what do most digital marketers do? We put ourselves out there, and then send a link to our funnel. But what we’re not realizing is that the funnels are using are essentially eliminating our website traffic and taking away our authority. In other words, they’re sucking away all of our google juice. So why keep using funnels if they’re just hurting us? Funnels are a great tool to get people where we want them to be, seeing what we want them to view. So there’s got to be a better way to utilize them, right? Of course there is!
Better Utilization of Funnels
In true Formula Done fashion, we dove in to find a way to utilize funnels in a way that will benefit our website traffic instead of hinder it. We have devised a backlink strategy that will utilize the funnels in a way that will help us create more traffic and essentially show google that we are an authority site.
Why won’t funnels do this on their own, you ask? Google knows that you’re trying to collect information first instead of giving value. Not to mention, more times than not, once a funnel is created, Facebook ads are then turned on. You’re then paying for your exposure instead of generating organic exposure. And we all know that we want to save money instead of paying it out.
So how will we be getting our funnels to work with backlinks? Essentially what we want to do is first generate FREE traffic. (I don’t know about you but I love free things!) Second, we want Google to know that we are an authority site – that we’re not just in it for the information. What better way to do this than by giving something of value! Free traffic and valuable information come hand in hand. The more value you give, the more free traffic you’ll generate. Sounds easy right?
Backlinks Strategy in Digital Marketing
Okay, so now you’re thinking we need to get to the good part! How exactly we’re going to make this work. Hear me out here. As I mentioned in Part 1 – Guest Blogging Opportunities, this is an ongoing experiment, so be sure that you check back in with us on our YouTube channel so you don’t miss out on the outcome of the experiment!
As you know, Formula Done is rebranding. We’re redoing our entire website, brand colors, our blog… you name it! So when contemplating guest blogging and making it work for digital marketers, I started contemplating what would happen if instead of having traffic running to sub-sites, if all of the funnels started linking back to our main authority site. We would still have all of the major information that would be on the first page of the funnel, but it would be housed in one main authority site. This could be huge!
Possibilities
So how do funnels and backlinks tie in, you ask? Our funnels are now going to be running to our main authority site. These pages will be SEO optimized. Customers will come into the funnel, see our story, who we’re trying to reach, and basically understand our story arc (which I do talk about in another episode!) before very clearly receiving an offer. Then, they’ll be taken into the second part of the funnel, because obviously, that’s the point!
Instead of funneling people’s attention to one sales page and losing them if they’re not ready to buy, you’re sending them to a place where all of your products and information is housed. Each time someone new comes through your funnel, they’ll find your authority site. Some of these prospects are ready to buy and basically want you to take their money! Which, don’t get me wrong, it’s great.
However, some of these prospects are still on the fence. They’re still not quite convinced. By finding your authority site, they’ll get an idea of who you are, why you are credible, and realize that you recognize their pain points and have a solution for them. Not to mention, they can click around and see what other products you have, and find your (dare I say it?) blog, or your social media outlets. There’s honestly a mountain of possibilities. And you never know, maybe one of your smaller products will appeal to them more, and eventually draw them into your bigger ticket items!
Living for the Outcome
This all sounds so exciting, right? Now again, this is an ongoing experiment that we are doing here at Formula Done. So, while our rebranding is underway (which you should totally check out our rebranding episode!), we’re going to be starting our journey in this guest blogging and backlinks experiment.
